The 4th Vasakh Film Festival started on the 18th of April with the screening of documentaries. There was a welcome address by Mass Communication Head Dr Saleem Abbas. Dean of Humanities Dr Waseem Anwar and Program Manager IRC Nasir Sohail also spoke on the occasion.
Guests from different media organizations, the faculty of Mass Communication Department along with Rector Dr Peter H. Armacost and Vice-Rector Dr Marcia Grant attended the inauguration ceremony.
Teams from 23 different universities and institutions of the country and abroad sent in their documentaries for screening at the festival.
The 4th Vasaakh film festival came to an end with a cultural evening. Beating of drums and traditional gidda and bhangra dances marked the start of the cultural evening. There were also buggie rides for guests who were welcomed with showering of petals by students clad in shalwar kurta and lacha, saris and other traditional dresses. Different groups of students also presented folk and kathak dance and Punjabi Tappas representing the Pakistani culture. The stage was tastefully decorated in the colors befitting the season of Vasaakh. Students presented classical, jazz and Punjabi songs on the occasion.
The best three contestant documentaries were awarded. The First prize went to 'Poor Man's Gold' of the National College of Arts; the second went to 'Decade' of ICS, Punjab University, and the third to 'Khuda Zameen Se Gaya Nahi' of Fatima Jinnah College for Girls, Chunna Mandi. In the category of fiction, the first prize went to 'Not to be too loud' of Punjab University, second to 'Mehru' by Lahore College for Women University and the third to 'Pallet Eye' by the NCA, Lahore.
For the prize distribution ceremony the chief guest was Mrs. Noshaba Khosa (spouse of Punjab Governor Mr Latif Khosa). Besides her many renowned journalists , writers and celebrities from TV, stage and theater showed up, including Zeba Bakhtiar, Mustaser Hussain Tarar, Imran Babar, Samia Ahmad, Abdul Rauf, Naveed Shehzad, Noor-ul-Hassan, Ahmad Aqeel Rubi, Muhammad Junaid, Irfan Khusat, Asghar Nadeen Syed, M. Mudassar, Seemi Raheel, Salman Shahid, Usman Peerzada and Rafaqat Ali Khan were there which made the evening star studded
